PolandMay time in southeast Poland and the countryside sparkles. The spring is well set, the forest is in leaf, the river banks burst with wild flowers. And best of all, the San River, one of the moors beautiful in Europe, simply teems with fly life, heaves with prime brown trout and grayling. For the river angler, the San is one of the great experiences. ![]() But what’s so great about it? The quality and the quantity of the fish are unparalleled. The size of some grayling is quite staggering. The general standard of the browns is simply breath-taking. It’s the fishing experience, too. The San is broad, generally shallow and frequently crystal clear. It demands that you wade, that you explore, that you get close to your fish. If it’s sight fishing that you love, the San is the river that you’ve dreamed of fishing. Casting for Gold worked hard on its Polish connection and is lucky now to be able to offer a superb package. Accommodation is welcoming. Food is excellent and generous. The guiding is just as you want it – attentive but not cloying, there when you need it, hands on if you want it. And you have fun. Bankside barbecues. Polish wines and liquors to toast a particularly notable catch…and sometimes that happens all the time! Jeremy Lucas is part of the Casting for Gold team along with leader, John Bailey. Jeremy will be known by many of you as one of the leading lights in the English fly fishing team. His reputation on rivers is absolutely awesome. In fact, John has no doubt whatsoever in considering Jeremy perhaps the best river angler he’s ever seen in action. “I was fortunate enough to meet up with Jeremy a few years back in Slovenia when he was competing with the English European team. I was immediately struck by his grace, his poise, and his sheer athleticism out on the river. Jeremy brings an art to river fly fishing that I previously had never witnessed before.” Our trip to the San, therefore, offers the chance to fish one of the most unspoilt rivers in Europe today but also to partake in what is a virtual master class in river techniques. Places now are like gold dust. We suggest you act very soon indeed.
